“Saving History: The Story of Tuck High Co.
In 1980, Tuck High Co. was the oldest continuously operating store in Chinatown—but New York City’s Chinatown was changing rapidly. Dramatically rising rents caused several store closures, and third-generation Tuck High owners Wah On Lee and Coon On Lee were forced to close.

The Chinatown History Project was founded to collect history in the face of these closures. The Lee family connected with curators at the New York State Museum, who collected the façade, fixtures, and products from the store. Ever dedicated to their store, the Lee family sold goods until their very last day on Mott Street.
