I was making oatmilk today, and I thought I would share as it has saved me a lot of money vs. buying it in the store.
You will need
-Rolled oats (not quick oats, just rolled oats)
-water
-a blender
-cheesecloth or a nut milk bag
-(optional) a pinch of salt and a splash of vanilla extract
Measure 2 cups of oats and place in blender
Add 8 cups of water
If adding, add in your pinch of salt and vanilla extract
Blend on high for two minutes
Strain through cheesecloth or nut milk bag and refrigerate. It will separate as there are no emulsifiers added, so you will have to shake or mix it before using.
The pulp leftover can be used to make cookies, pancakes or oat bars or you can add it into smoothies for a little extra fiber and protein.
This is so useful. You need to make a zine cookbook, that would be so cool, for when we can no longer afford electricity AND food. We can choose food and use your zine.
I have been poor a long time (not anymore but skills still help) and I learned how to make a lot of household things as a result.
My backyard also gets an obscene amount of acorns, so I am already making plans to gather as many as I can this fall before the landscaper comes.
Thanks for sharing @Lady_Ren I will do the same but with almonds to make almond milk. The leftover almonds can be dried in oven to make almond flour. Costco sells almonds in bulk!
