It was a beautiful day in NYC. I’m seeing some critiques of the protests as ineffective. They are demonstrations of large numbers & right now they are peaceful. People are pointing out that they haven’t made much of a difference … yet. But this is only what the consensus thinks they see. I think our population is very passive and kinda timid. If the first protest that many people went to involved cracking heads, “rubber” bullets, and flash bangs, most would never return and shelter at home hoping to weather it out. Start nice, develop experience, escalate demands.

Some people on social media were referencing the protests in Georgia, Gaza, Serbia. (To imply these protests are not real or effective.) People have been killed there. Are you ready to face death? Our Army spends months training people for that situation and then they are very careful to commit green troops to easy engagements so they can develop experience. Look at these people. Are any of these people prepared to die and watch their family member die? NO! So don’t demand that of them. The little 4 year old that’s holding the “He ruined Home Alone 2” sign, is she a pawn in your game of online activism chess?
Some people have been playing “Call of Duty” waaayy too much. How many times was your character killed? How long did the healing take? 6 months plus therapy and now you PTSD? Right now we have nice peaceful demonstrations that show numbers, normalize speaking out, and destroy the isolation that our opponents use to demoralize us and win. They allow us to develop Courage. They allow us to develop Connections. They allow us to develop Institutions. Build first and prepare for the days ahead.
