“ Urgent investigation is needed into the potential impact sunscreen is having on marine environments, according to a [new report](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0025326X2500102X).

Sunscreens contain chemical compounds, known as pseudo persistent pollutants, which block the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and can [lead to bleaching and deformity in coral](https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/news/sunscreen-corals.html#:~:text=Scientists%20have%20also%20discovered%20that,Coral:%20Accumulates%20in%20tissues.) or a decrease in fish fertility.”
